Bruce Roady on November 8, 2011 http://www.wildlifepro.net/forum/topics/22-hornet-204-22-250 asked the following question and thanks to the many who shared Bruce was able to come to a decision and he thanks you.
I am in need of a new rifle. I want one that will put down a yote out to 300-400 yards, yet not destroy a fox at closer ranges. Of the three above, what ya’ll got say?????????
Someone talk me into a .204……LOL This .223 I have now is way to much for fox. LOL

Jake Otto I think you’re looking at the 22-250 then! The .22 hornet lacks in that long of distance and I’m not so sure the .204 would be very good either, as there would be much worse wind drift.

Leon Melton i like the .243 . -
Kevin Dahn stay low cal Robb 243 , 204, 222, 223, 22 hornet isna few seconds ago · -
Robert Lorigan I like my 243 but you want to make sure to place your shots. I’ve never lost a deer. All but one fell in their tracks. The one who didn’t was a running shot and it struck a rib, breaking out an inch section and driving it through the lungs. She dropped with’in 40 yards.Reply by Bruce Roady
well looks like I am gonna go with the 204. LOL
I have owned and used both the 22′s and loved them. The hornet was a great fox gun, the 250 to much for them. That was several years ago however, didn’t have the different bullts to shoot then.
I am old school however…..lol Gonna be hard to go with a gun I am not familiar with. Please keep the replies coming. I wanna hear or read all I can about these.

Brent Saxton 22-250 Savage best gun for the price right now. Has killed allot of Coyotes for me and will reach out and get them. Has the acu trigger, and out of the box great gun at a good price!

Brent Saxton Kevin, I do real well on saving the fur with a 22-250. Loading your own rounds helps but the win value pack rounds fromwalmart do well also. I have never had a issue with fur damage an the 22-250 -
Scott Balts .223 .243 my choice
Mike Flick Carry a 12 guage for close ups loaded with bb shot. the rest take out with a 243. Making 400 yard shots work in the wind is a science, and takes lots of practice and experamenting with differant grains of bullets. Good luck Bruce!
Reply by Bruce Roady a 243 is to much gun for fox. We don’t have many left and I sure don’t wanna waste them when they come running to a call.
The 204 out shoots the 250 for the most part. Inside and up 250 yards, the 250 has more whack. past that the 204 stays flatter and retains more energy. I would not have believed it myself but I have talked to and read enough over the past several days to believe it now. The only thing about any of the 20 cal guns is they are almost as finicky about ammo as alot of the 22 cal guns. From what I am being told and reading anyway. I guess i am gonna find out soon enough.
I decided on the Handi-rifle. A much less expensive gun and one that will allow me to find out if I like that cal. If I don’t I can resell it for real close to what I pay for it. Or if I decide to go to a bolt action gun, I won’t be out alot of money on the first one. Simply a shooter, nothing fancy, but that suits me just fine.
