Rainy Days Make For Armadillo Nights Near Gainesville Florida
Many of us find the armadillo a very fascinating animal. No doubt it is a one of a kind critter here near Gainesville and all of Florida, and most of the Deep South and Texas. But if you love armadillos try going armadillo watching in the rain in the middle of the night. Your best chance is near a wooded area near grass that could either be someones yard, a golf course, a commercial building or out on the public lands somewhere.
The rainy days and rainy nights soften up the ground and the earthworms and grubs come up to the top of the soil. The aroma of lots of grubs and earthworms present in the soil near the surface actually end up attracting the armadillos to a favorite feast of grubs and earthworms. We get more armadillo damage calls for removal during and after raining days then any other time of the year.
